New Day, New Design

You have probably noticed a slower post frequency over the past few weeks. Besides being extremely busy, with a lot of things going on behing the scenes, the primary reason for this lack of posting was the re-design of the blog!

There is much more to this re-design than meets the eye. I finally went through with something that had been on my mind for a number of months: moving the blog from Blogger to WordPress. It was quite a feat, but I managed to get through it! All past post links should still be working, however I apologize in advance if you come across any errors whilst browsing the blog. I am still in the process of ironing out some final things, but the bulk of the re-design is over.

So I’m kicking off the new day with a brand new design for the blog! Yeay :)

Besides a sleeker look, this re-design allows for more customization, as well as interaction. Commenting on blog posts is now much easier! You do not need to leave the post pages or register at all. A small form is available below every post (on individual pages), which allows you to write away, and have your say! So I definitely encourage you all to comment on the posts here.

And why not start right away? Have your say and let me know what you think of the new site design, just leave your thoughts below.

About Curves Expands Collection

Heart Throb - Plus size, an online store offering exclusively plus size lingerie, has recently announced the addition of a brand new collection to its stock. The new items can be purchase directly through their site, and  include an assortment of lingerie featuring hearts, flowers, and feathers.

"We really aim to make the everyday woman feel sexy," says owner Robin Bryan-Culver. "Did you know more than fifty percent of American women are size 14 or larger?" As an exclusive retailer of plus size lingerie, Robin understands that many larger women get a message from society that they should be shameful of their bodies. But as a plus size woman herself, Robin believes that all women should have the opportunity to feel sexy and self-confident about their bodies.

Black Cat Plus Launch Authentic Woman Model Search

Black Cat Plus has just launched its new on-line contemporary clothing boutique for plus size women wearing sizes 12 – 24, and also announces its Search for the Authentic Woman Model Search Contest.

Black Cat PlusPresident and owner, Jodell Raymond, is an international trainer and speaker on women’s leadership and workplace gender issues and is excited about her new site which caters to women who want to wear contemporary and stylish clothing.

Raymond is a plus size woman who spent considerable time and effort trying to find clothes that had a modern look. Out of that frustration came the inspiration to open an on-line contemporary clothing boutique so that other plus size women did not have to work so hard to find clothes that reflected current styles. Raymond’s primary objective is to find clothing that one would not see in a large department store, allowing her to provide a more distinct offering which reflects the lifestyles of her customers.

She says, “I was always disappointed at the lack of choices for the plus size professional woman. In every city where I had speaking engagements I was always on a mission to find plus size clothing stores where I could shop. Plus size women have the money to spend and we do not want to be banished to wearing baggy clothes in monochromatic tones forever. From work to play, the desire to wear trendy clothes in updated, contemporary styles does not need to stop at a size 10. The average woman wears between a size 12 and 14. We want to wear the same styles as our smaller size counterparts and we want clothing that fits, makes us look and feel terrific, and is appropriate to our lifestyle.”

As part of that mission, Raymond has designed her own line of plus size clothing to offer to customers beginning with its Spring ’08 Collection. “Visit us at our website to view our own exclusive collection of contemporary and stylish plus size fashions,” she says.

To celebrate the plus size woman and her lifestyle choices, Black Cat Plus’ Search for the Authentic Woman Model Search Contest’s was conceived. The objective of the Model Search Contest is to demonstrate that confidence comes in all shapes and sizes and from that confidence comes the power to change perceptions. Raymond has plans to use the site as a forum for dialogue and discussion of issues relevant to all women. She says, “I hope that this site delivers positive messages and allows others to look at vivacious, positive, real women whoii enjoy life.”

Models must be 21 years of age, a size 12, and must answer two questions as part of their entry submission:

  1. What is the best lesson I have ever learned? and
  2. How do I live an authentic life?

Entry deadline is March 15, 2008. See for details.

Black Cat Plus offer contemporary and stylish selections from popular on-line retailers such as Kiyonna and Svoboda as well as Canadian Designer Linda Lundstrom, Loco Lindo, Berek, Kaktus, Pure & Co., and Black Cat Plus Private Label. Black Cat Plus also has a store-front showroom/boutique located in Rochester, NY at sister boutique, SoLia Boutique.

Avenue named November's Store of the Month

If you have visited the main page of over the weekend, you should have noticed that we have a new store of the month! In fact November’s store of the month is Avenue, as it has proven to be a great resource for plus size women during these holiday days.

In this mont’s store, I was looking for variety, style, versatility and efficiency.

  • Variety in the sense that it needed to provide a lot of options for clothing, so whether someone was looking for an outfit to wear at an office party, or a formal gown to wear at a New Year’s Even ball, they were to find it.
  • Style is pretty obvious. The items offered needed to be stylish, figure flattering and in fashion.
  • Versatlity in the way it would let you shop. It needed to carry a great range of both clothing, footwear, as well as items that can make perfect gifts.
  • Efficiency in the way the store let you shop around and complete your holiday shopping needs.

All of the above criteria were completel met by Avenue, hence they have been named November’s Plus Size Clothing Store of the Month. Do visit Avenue to shop through their collection, and read more about why it was named this month’s top choice.

Size Acceptance Club Opens in Reno

Couple Tony Piersanti and Jean Olson, who have been dating for a year, have last week opened up a brand new plus size nightclub in Reno. They opened up this club for people of every size to come along and have a good time.

Being quite a ‘different’ couple, Tony being much thinner than Jean, they both wanted to provide people of every shape and size with somewhere they can go to, relax, enjoy themselves and just be who they are.

I think this is a great iniative this great couple has taken, and it is great for everyone in the Reno area to have a new club to socialize it.

Plus Movie Wins at KIDS FIRST!

You might recall that I had posted about a very interested and thought provoking movie way back in July and even January called Plus; a movie which focuses on the plus size modelling industry and the ‘padding’ of models issue.

Well it’s a pleasure for me to let you know Plus has recently won second prize in it’s category (ages 12 – 18) at the KIDS FIRST! Film Festival in Los Angeles. Alexandra DeBouver (who plays Victoria), Marlene Barrett (Assistant Director), and Keicia Derry (who plays Ms. Gamble) were present at the ceremony and accepted the award.

A big well done and congratulations to Chris Shirley (writer and director) and everyone in the cast and crew of Plus!

A trailer of the movie is available for viewing on the official website.
