Jumpsuits, animal prints, military jackets, and skinny jeans reigned in 2010. Fashion last year was about being strong but sexy. In the upcoming year fashion trends will turn in a more romantic direction. What will 2011 look like? Here are the top five fashion trends for this year:
1. Ballet-inspired Dresses
Dresses will be soft and feminine. The military chic look will give way to designs inspired by ballet. You don’t have to be a dancer to love this style. You also don’t need the petite body shape of a ballerina to look great rocking this style. The classic tutu will be recreated into a chic dress that will look flattering on all shapes and sizes.
2. Wide-leg Pants
It’s time to retire your skinny jeans. The new trouser trend is wide, baggy shapes. Harem pants were frequently seen on runways during fashion week. Cropped and tailored at the calf, these can make you look like a modern Arabian princess. If harem pants are not your cup of tea, classic wide-leg silhouettes will also be all the rage. Jeans inspired by designs in the 1970s will replace the skintight denim of 2011. Both styles can be paired with high heels for a sexy, contemporary look.
3. Lace
Lace already has a presence in the fashion world today. Fall 2010 saw a resurrection of this beautiful, sophisticated material. This trend will continue to grow in 2011. Lace dresses and skirts will be romantic, not vulgar. The idea is to have subtle sex appeal.
4. Ruffles
Much like lace, ruffles first made an appearance in the fall of 2010. They will emerge as one of the top trends of 2011. These will not be over the top like their predecessors in the 1980’s. This year’s ruffles will be simple and grown up. Meant to complement the female form, they will be more of an accent than a focal point.
5. Floral Prints
Floral patterns will add some excitement to fashion in 2011. There are two ways to adapt this trend to your personal style. You can combine a floral print with lace for an ultra-feminine look. If you like a simpler style, wear a floral blouse with a classic pencil skirt.
While 2010 was about masculine fashion with a sexy twist, 2011 is about embracing classic feminine designs. These trends can be easily adapted to fit your unique style. This year will be all about celebrating romance and beauty.
