I contacted Alight regarding a cocktail style dress priced at $220.00. I noticed for this dress neither a return nor an exchange was permitted. I asked “norman” from their instant chat why this was. He indicated they consider this to be an expensive dress and expensive dresses are non returnable or exchangeable. Additionally ally he said all Internet evening dress sellers have the same policy. I noted Nordstroms and Saks as having different policies.
I just would like to voice my frustration with this policy as a woman who is sometimes a 16/18/20 and has a very full bust; it is difficult to know how the bodice of a garment will fit my unique figure regardless of the sizing listed for that item. It depends on the stretch of the fabric…just how much of a stretch there is to the fabric, the actual cut of the bodice etc. So many details of the garment are unanswered from an,often single image, of the item. These retailers of the web should understand that unlike the brick and mortar stores, the consumer is not able to try-on the item to see and feel the fit before deciding to purchase. When in comes to plus size clothing there are few choices in store fronts and even fewer choices in specific style selection through a store front. Thus the boom in the internet store front. However, with this boom, businesses must also understand shopping has to accommodate those that it aims to serve. Having a policy that does not permit returns or exchanges cuts off many of those it could serve.
Thus, I am very disappointed with Alight and any other business not permitting a return or exchange for their customer especially in the specialty markets.
