According to Post-Gazette writer, LaMont Jones, the skinny pants which were so popular during the summer months, are now losing their appeal and are being taken over by the ever favorite wide-leg trousers.

T.J. Maxx Fashion spokewoman, Laura McDowell said of this type of trousers: "They are very, very fashionable and they are very figure-flattering and forgiving. They provide a very nice line in a pleasing silhouette for all figure types. Women are rejoicing!"

Some women might thing wide leg trousers might make them look bigger due to more fabric being there, which continues to add to the width. But this is a preconception which should be forgotten altogether as wide leg pants flatter any type of figure.

Here are some tips for plus size women to make sure they chose the right wide leg pants:

• If you have ample hips, make sure that the trousers do not start getting wide at the hips.
• If you are quite tall, go for a longer top that hangs to just below the buttocks when wearing wide leg trousers, as this helps balance proportions. Adding a belt to this look is another nice touch.
• If you are thick waisted, go for trousers with a drawstring waist to eliminate the extra girth added by a belt.
• Wide leg pants look best in high heels, so do not be afraid to wear them. However the trousers should never drag to the ground, and should have a narrower top to provide visual balance.
• Wear tops and blouses that fit close to the body, and if you prefer, tuck in the top.

Torrid has this month partnered with the National Breast Cancer Foundation in the fight against breast cancer. There are two ways we all can join in to help riase breast cancer awareness:

• Seventy percent of all breast cancers are found through breast self-exams. Not all lumps are detectable by touch. Regular mammograms are highly recommended, along with monthly self-exams.
• When breast cancer is found early, the five-year survival rate is 96%. This is good news! Over 2 million breast cancer survivors are alive in America today.

An early detection plan should include:

• Clinical breast examinations every three years from ages 20 to 29, then every year thereafter.
• Monthly breast self-examinations beginning at age 20. Look for any changes in your breasts.
• Baseline mammogram by the age of 40.
• Mammogram every one to two years for women 40 to 49, depending on previous findings.
• A personal calendar to record your self-exams, mammograms, and doctor appointments.
• A low-fat diet, regular exercise, and no smoking or drinking.

This has been a great summer for the plus size industry! With a lot of more great curvy fashion becoming available to full figured women, as well as a number of events and model searches being organized, the future for curvy fashion and plus size women worldwide looks bright and definitely stylish!

Mimi's Curvy Corner is one of those budding on-line plus size clothing stores which has a bright future ahead. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be able to try out first hand some of the curvy clothing offered by Mimi's Curvy Corner... and here is my take on the items:

1. Perfectly Plum Cross-Over Neck Top: The first things that struck me about this top was the color, it comes in a gorgeous purple tone, and since I have a soft spot for pinks and purples this top immediately made me smile. It is a casual top which I would choose to wear for a day out and about, and perhaps even for a casual coffee or movie in the evening. Paired up with either flats or kitten heels, this top can easily be worn up and down. It is incredibly comfortable and the V-neck give is a very sexy look. If you choose to wear this top for a casual evening out, it might be a good idea to match up some accessories to give it a complete different look; try matching up a pair of earrings and a nice necklace. This top features a cinched effect at both sides of the hips, and in my opinion this effect is the cherry on the cake for this top as it continues to define the curves and shape up the body. An essential ingredient in a curve flattering top.


2. Sexy Gold Empire Wait On/Off Shoulder Top: The next top which I took a look at is one which is more suited for wearing at a party or a night out with friends or your partner. It is a very cute brown top with gold detail. Again it comes in a plunging V-neckline, making it a very sexy number to wear! A ribbon details is found just under the breast line, joining up as a bow at the left hand side. This adds a gorgeous detail in my opinion and along with another great feature, the slightly cuffed sleeves, this is a top which will definitely make you stand out from the crowd. This tops can be worn both on shoulder and off the shoulder, for a sexier look.


3. Jet Black Cinched Bust Top With Lace Trim: The final top from Mimi's Curvy Corner which I took a closer look at was a black formal top with lace trimmings. This top is perfect to be worn in a more formal setting, perfect for instance for a dinner party or even a work related evening event. The lace detail at the neckline gives this top a classy and chic look. The cinched bust, along with the lace trim, continues to give the top sexy and dramatic aura. Again this one proved to be very comfortable to wear.

Overall I was rather impressed with the selection of tops I took a look at from Mimi's Curvy Corner. These particular ones showed that Mimi's offers a selection ideal for any time of the day, or occasion. Furthermore it is obvious that these tops were created with the plus size figure in mind as they fit very well and enhance all the right curves! So I would definitely recommend you give Mimi's Curvy Corner a closer look.

Hat tip to Moe, from Big Girl Blue, for this excellent find! Did you know that Love Your Body Day is coming up on October 21st? This is a great initiative being put together by Hollywood NOW. On this day ladies are urged to forget their 'flaws' and celebrate their unique attributes!

Whether you are plus size or skinny, this is the day when all women celebrate real beauty:

• Every body is beautiful.
• Accept yourself as you are!

This day's highlight is the event being held on the day between noon and 4:00pm which will feature signers, actors, dancers and comedy. Plus a fashion show where real women strut their stuff could definitely not be missing from such an event.

Admission is free, plus there will be complimentary massages, make-overs and mini manicures. The event will be held at Plummer Park (Fiesta Hall), 1200 N. Vista Street, West Hollywood, California. Oh how I wish I lived in California right now... I would definitely not miss this sure to be great event.

Unfortunately I discovered this great new plus size calendar a little bit too late in the year! It wouldn't make sense to purchase a 2007 calendar in October, 2007 now does it?
